Hillside is situated in Scalloway, the ancient capital of Shetland. The hill behind is an excellent location to view the abundant wildlife with Shetland ponies, sheep, otters, seals and numerous types of birds. The views of the islands (many of which were still inhabited roughly 100 years ago) from the top of the hill is spectacular.
The village of Scalloway was the main repair base for the Shetland bus operations during World war 2 and has a monument commemorating those lost. The slipway includes information boards explaining its part in these wartime operations and the close links between Shetland and Norway.
Within ten miles of Scalloway there are numerous sandy beaches, two golf courses, many beautiful seashore, cliff and hill walks, lochs for trout fishing and the old Norse Ting (parliament).
Hillside is fully equipped with bed linen and towels, washing machine and dishwasher supplies, tea, coffee, sugar, kitchen and toilet rolls.
