Situated in the centre of Yell, it is an ideal situation for exploring Unst, Fetlar, and the Mainland, using the roll-on roll-off ferries. The house sits in a large garden, surrounded by fields. It’s accessed down a track with space for parking 3 cars. Yell is the second largest of the Shetland islands with natural beauty of moorland and plenty of sandy beaches to explore.
Greenfield is stone-built and is over 100 years old. The living room, porch and bathroom are within the slightly younger brick-built extension. The house is fully insulated and has oil central heating with additional electric heating in the bedrooms. The characterful upstairs bedrooms are under the eaves that are wood lined, so very cosy. Both have views to the east looking over Mid Yell, the sea, and islands.
The sports centre – 10 minutes’ walk away – has an indoor swimming pool. The Mid Yell hall is even nearer, just at the top of the track. 15 minutes’ walk away is the Hill Shop which is licensed and well stocked with groceries.
The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of dishes and cutlery. There is a NEF microwave and a NEF oven/grill, the separate hob is induction. There is a full size NEF dishwasher and a large fridge freezer. The kitchen has Freeview, and the living room has Freesat.
The bathroom is downstairs (bath and separate shower) and upstairs there is a shower room and toilet.
The back porch is where you’ll find the washing machine, iron and ironing board. This room is bright with views to the north, east and west, so is lovely to use as a breakfast room or, if the weather is nice in the evening, to have a dram or cuppa on the “briggie stanes” seats just outside the back door. You can relax over your evening meal in the cosy kitchen or set the table in the living room and enjoy the view over the harbour.
